Vern Hanson, Hanson Bros., Inc., says the HBA has been a prominent part of his life as long as he can remember. Growing up as the son of Lyle Hanson (a founding member for the HBA of F-M) instilled a respect for the association.

“Both Dad and I have been very proud of this organization, what it’s become and being part of it,” Vern says. “It is one of the most influential organizations legislatively on the local, state and national levels.”

Founded in 1949, Hanson Bros., Inc., is a highly respected custom home building company in the area; Vern says the HBA has played a big part in that success.

“Most of what I learned about running a business, I learned from rubbing shoulders with other in the industry and by taking advantage of the HBA’s educational opportunities,” he says. “These experiences have made me a better person.”

Vern is the current HBA president and has served on the board since 1999. He also was a director in the late 1980s and, at that time, served on a Spike Committee and Builders Council. Since 2000, Vern has put countless hours into monitoring changing code regulations as part of the IRC Subcommittee.

HBA Executive Vice President Bryce Johnson says, “Anyone who works with Vern knows he has a heartfelt dedication to the HBA, industry and his family and his business. He puts much thought and effort into work as president, and in supporting the association in general.”

In his presidency, Vern has been on-call for arising issues including Fargo LDC discussions, candidates forums for three local election races, meetings with newly elected officials, and working with the Fargo building inspections office to alleviate administrative problems.

Hanson Bros., Inc., has been a Parade of Homes participant and is a regular exhibitor in the RRV Home & Garden Show. Vern contributes to NDAB-PAC (North Dakota Association of Builders political action committee), serves on the HBA’s Health Trust & Plan Management Committee, is a Spike Club member, represents the HBA as a state director on the NDAB board, and represents the HBA on the National Association of Home Builders board.

In his spare time, Vern enjoys water skiing, golf, motorcycling, and spending time with this family: wife, Genece, two grown children, Mike and Ann, and five grandchildren.

Vern was committed not only to the details we wanted in our home, but also to the ongoing communication necessary during the process of building. read more
